SDSU Extension to host off-season Garden Hour series

Garden Hour runs weekly during the growing season, typically from May through August. The off-season episodes are scheduled from 7 to 8 p.m. Central time on Oct. 8 and Dec. 3, 2024, and Feb. 11 and April 1, 2025.

The South Dakota State University Northeast Research Farm Field Day will be held on July 13 at 4 p.m. and will run until dusk.

SDSU Extension to host 4th annual Specialty Crop Field Day

August 28, 2024

This free, family-friendly event will feature a series of presentations and field tours related to small- to mid-scale commercial vegetable production research trials. Field tours will feature SDSU Extension research plots of cucumbers, tomatoes, melons, onions, peppers and broccolini.

Ag Land Values Decrease Statewide on Average

From 1991 to 2015, agricultural land values in South Dakota, and in most other major agricultural production states, appreciated each year. In 2016 on average all agricultural use land decreased in South Dakota except rangeland, which will be discussed in a future article.

4-H Companion Animal Project

SDSU Extension welcomes new bison specialist

SDSU Extension is excited to announce a new bison specialist. Jeff Martin has been named the SDSU Extension Bison Specialist and the Assistant Professor of Bison Biology and Management in the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Martin’s role is 70 percent research and 30 percent Extension, and he will continue to be based at West River Research and Extension center in Rapid City, South Dakota.
