4-H Safety Project

The Safety 4-H project area is designed for youth to gain the knowledge and skills to prevent injuries and accidents and how to get assistance when they occur. Become familiar with areas including but not limited to farm and rural safety, fire safety, injury and illness prevention, kitchen safety, internet and technology use, and environmental safety.

South Dakota Tar Spot Update: November 8, 2024

In late October, tar spot was identified on dried field corn being sold for decoration at a big box store in eastern South Dakota. This fungal disease can be identified by the black lesions that are on both sides of the leaf.

Summer 2025 Climate Review and September Outlook

A record wet August in several locations marked the end of South Dakota’s meteorological summer. One challenge coming this fall will be determining how quickly field and crop conditions dry down to allow harvest activities to progress.
