Write stories from your life, not your life story.

In the Heirlooms: Creative Life Story Writing Workshop, the focus is not on writing your entire memoir or life story. Instead, you’ll learn to write shorter, more-focused stories from your life.
This workshop uses prompts to help you identify important milestones, events and themes in your life. You will also learn to incorporate your five senses into your writing. Since we don’t experience the world in one dimension, your writing should also be multi-dimensional. Incorporating things you saw, tasted, heard, smelled or touched in your writing will make your stories even richer.
Sample Writing Prompt: Write about an experience that defined your middle school years. Share a specific memory that takes you back to that time and place. Relive the scene by showing us, rather than telling us, the details of what happened.
Come prepared to do some writing in the workshop, as we will devote time in class for story development. If you feel comfortable, you will also have the opportunity to share stories with others. Bring a pen and paper or have access to word processing software during the class session.
