Workshop Objectives

  • Increase knowledge about life story writing.
  • Learn skills/strategies for life story writing.
  • Practice writing a story from your life in the workshop.
  • Give and receive constructive feedback to improve writing skills (about writing done live during the workshop).

Benjamin Franklin said, "Nothing is certain in this world except death and taxes." In this workshop, you'll learn how to write a basic obituary capturing your significant life milestones and events. During the workshop, we will discuss different styles of obituaries and how to make your obituary reflect your personality. No matter how old you are, it is important to start drafting your written obituary document. This ensures it’s available for your family and loved ones when it’s needed. Most importantly, writing your own obituary gives you the opportunity to preserve your life story in your own words.

For the workshop, please have access to a notebook and pen or a Word program on your computer. All ages of adults are welcome to attend. Please come prepared to write and to share your writing, as this workshop is highly interactive.
