Workshop Objectives
- Increase knowledge about genealogy writing.
- Learn skills/strategies for ancestor writing.
- Practice writing the story of an ancestor during the workshop.
- Give and receive constructive feedback to improve writing skills (about writing done live during the workshop).
Have you ever considered writing a story about a family member you’ve never met? In this interactive workshop, we will focus on writing the stories of our ancestors. Although we may not know everything about our ancestors, we can bring these people to life through vivid description and detail. We can also use public records to help us fill in the blanks. Genealogical research methods will be discussed, along with writing techniques you can use to make your stories shine. Please come to the workshop with an ancestor in mind that you already know basic information about (birth location, locations of employment, education or training, etc.) and would like to write a story about.
For the workshop, please have access to a notebook and pen or a Word program on your computer. All ages of adults are welcome to attend.
Important Note: Please come prepared to write and to share your writing, as this workshop is highly interactive.
