BROOKINGS, S.D. – SDSU Extension is pleased to announce the hire of Eric Jones as the new weed management specialist.

In his role, Jones will provide producers with research-based information on the most effective ways to control weeds. He will also conduct applied research to explore new options for weed control. He will be based at the SDSU campus in Brookings.

“I enjoy helping farmers and I enjoy weed management – getting to do both is great,” Jones said. “I also want to introduce innovative weed control practices so farmers can continue to effectively control weeds.”

A native of Ames, Iowa, Jones graduated with a bachelor’s degree in agronomy and a master’s degree in crop production and physiology, with an emphasis in weed science, from Iowa State University. He earned a PhD in crop science with an emphasis in weed science from North Carolina State University.

“We are excited that Dr. Jones joined our weed management and weed control team,” said David Wright, head of the SDSU Department of Agronomy, Horticulture and Plant Science. “His expertise in detecting and managing herbicide-resistant weeds is crucial to profitable crop production in the next two decades.”
