BROOKINGS, S.D. – The latest season of Garden Hour, South Dakota State University Extension’s popular webinar series for gardeners, will start on May 5, 2026.
Led by the SDSU Extension horticulture team, the webinar features short, topical presentations every week during the growing season and every other month during the off-season.
Gardening enthusiasts of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. Master Gardeners can also receive continuing education credit for attending the live sessions.
The regular season series starts at 7 p.m. CDT every Tuesday, May 5, through Aug. 25, 2026. Is it free to join, but registration is required to receive the Zoom link. To register, visit the SDSU Extension Events page and search “garden”. One signup will register participants for the entire series. Confirmation Zoom links and reminders will be emailed.
Amanda Bachmann, SDSU Extension Urban Entomology Field Specialist, will lead the first webinar of the series, accompanied by SDSU graduate student Kristina Harms to talk about growing sweet corn.
The second week will feature Nick Volesky, SDSU Extension Horticulture and Specialty Crops Field Specialist, and Prairey Walkling, SDSU Extension Master Gardener Field Specialist, will talk about growing raspberries in South Dakota.
Bachmann said Garden Hour provides aspiring and experienced gardeners with access to experts who can share new information and answer region-specific questions about growing conditions.
“This is our sixth season, and I can't wait to hear what questions South Dakota gardeners have for us,” Bachmann said. “I'm looking forward to visiting with our new and returning experts to chat about what's growing this year.”
For those who can’t attend live, recordings will be published on the SDSU Extension YouTube channel. People can also submit questions any time via the Ask Extension widget or by contacting the Garden Hotline nearest them via the SDSU Extension Problems and Solutions page.
