Adult Mental Health First Aid Course - November

SDSU Extension will host a virtual Mental Health First Aid training course on November 20-21, from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. CST each day.

Mental Health First Aid kills-based training course that teaches teaches participants how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among adults. 

Mental Health First Aid training covers:

  • Common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges
  • Common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges
  • How to interact with a person in crisis
  • How to connect a person with help
  • Expanded content on trauma, substance use and self-care

This training prepares participants to interact with a person experiencing a mental health crisis. Mental Health First Aiders learn a 5-step action plan that guides them through the process of reaching out and offering appropriate support.

Registration

Please register using the button below by November 18. The training requires the completion of 2 hours of self-paced online course preparation and 6 hours of virtual training led by two certified MHFA instructors. You will receive an email from MHFAinfo@thenationalcouncil.org with instructions on how to complete the pre-work. The 2-hour online pre-work needs to be completed before the virtual training. Spots are limited, so be sure to register early. If a minimum number of participants are not registered, the course will be canceled and offered at another time. Those who have completed the pre-work will have the option to attend another course. The value of this course is $170. Thanks to SDSU Extension, this training is free for all South Dakota adults.
