Seminar Schedule
- 10:00 a.m. - Stepping Up: Becoming a Better Board Member presented by Dacia Hilkemeier, SDSU Extension Community Vitality Field Specialist
Finding committed, high quality board members for your organization can be challenging. Sometimes the greatest opportunity lies in asking your current board members to step up to the task of becoming better members. This seminar will explain some practical steps to help transform average board members into highly effective board members. - 11:00a.m. - EID use for Enhancing Livestock Management presented by Logan Vandermark, SDSU Extension Precision Livestock Field Specialist
Attendees will discover how to leverage Electronic Identification (EID) technology to streamline herd management and improve operational efficiency. This session will demonstrate how EIDs can support data-driven decisions around health monitoring and breeding. Attendees will gain practical insights into integrating EIDs into their existing systems and explore the benefits of quantitative decision making for more informed and sustainable livestock practices. - 12:00 p.m. - Gardening Timeline for the Western Dakotas presented by Nick Volesky, SDSU Extension Horticulture and Specialty Crops Field Specialist
Gardening in western South and North Dakota requires navigating dramatic temperature swings, intense weather events, and a short frost free season. This seminar walks participants step by step through the gardening year, from seed starting and transplanting to mid season management and harvest. Attendees will learn research based strategies in crop physiology, soil fertility, varietal selection, irrigation, protected cultivation, pest management, and harvest timing, all tailored to the region’s unique conditions. - 1:00 p.m. - Farm Safety: Keeping All 10 Fingers Since 1910 presented by Aspen Lenning, NDSU Adams County Extension/Agricultural and Natural Resources
Agriculture has always required hard work—and it’s a lot easier with all ten fingers. In this interactive session, we’ll explore common farm hazards, generational habits, and the small decisions that make a big difference in preventing injuries. Through real-life scenarios, audience participation, and practical take-home tools, participants will learn how to build a culture of safety that protects every member of the farm family. Because farm safety isn’t about fear or regulation—it’s about making sure everyone comes home with the same number of fingers they left with.
