4-H Shooting Sports

The 4-H Shooting Sports program develops safe shooting habits in youth ages 8-19. Students practice under the guidance of certified instructors and coaches who have received over 15 hours of training in the areas of safety, techniques, coaching and youth development.

4-H Shooting Sports Coaches Training - Shotgun & Muzzleloader @ Mitchell

SDSU Extension will host a 4-H Shooting Sports Coaches Training for the shotgun and muzzleloader disciplines on October 3, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Gun Club(3400 West Havens Ave., Mitchell, SD 57301).

SD 4-H welcomes new Shooting Sports and Outdoor Education Field Specialist

South Dakota 4-H, a program of South Dakota State University Extension, is pleased to welcome Karen Gardner as a new SDSU Extension 4-H Shooting Sports and Outdoor Education Field Specialist.

4-H Shooting Sports Hall of Fame Honorees

The 4-H Shooting Sports Hall of Fame was started in 2015. It was created to recognize those who played a role in bringing shooting sports to the South Dakota 4-H Program and those who have helped it to grow on the state and regional levels.

South Dakota State University Extension 4-H youth who competed at the 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships this year once again scored exceptionally well, including a first-place finish by Caden Chelmo of Brule County and the air pistol team.
