Join Leacey Brown, SDSU Extension Gerontology Field Specialist, and Molly Barari, South Dakota Humanities Scholar, for a dynamic 2-hour workshop blending reflection, creativity, and resilience. Through guided writing activities and thoughtful discussion, participants will explore the growth, wisdom, and perspective that come with aging. Brown and Barari foster an engaging learning environment that encourages participants to embrace their lived experiences. The workshop also highlights how writing can support coping during challenging times.
This immersive workshop invites participants of all ages and backgrounds to reflect on the rich experiences that shape us over time. With an emphasis on creative expression, guided writing exercises, and open-hearted dialogue, you'll have the opportunity to examine how beliefs about youth and aging influence our lives—and how they can be reshaped.
Together, we'll explore the evolving science and soul of aging, including the powerful concept of gerotranscendence—a theory that views aging not as decline, but as a deepening of insight and connection. Through personal storytelling and shared discovery, participants will uncover the often-overlooked strengths and inner wisdom that come with lived experience.
Whether you're navigating your own aging process, supporting a loved one, or simply curious about what lies ahead, this workshop offers a meaningful space to explore resilience, honor your story, and envision your future with renewed clarity. Participants will leave with writing pieces, tools for emotional coping, and a deeper appreciation for the beauty and complexity of growing older.
Brown and Barari create a welcoming, safe environment where vulnerability is met with compassion, and every voice is valued.
