Marshall County 4-H member Carter Effling has been involved in many aspects of 4-H over the past eight years. Effling says his favorite part of 4-H has been meeting new people from all around the state.

Carter is the son of Ray and Marci Effling. He has three sisters and one brother, who have also been involved in 4-H. Effling is 16 years old and is a sophomore at Britton-Hecla High School.

Effling’s biggest accomplishment in 4-H was winning the "Danforth I Dare You" award in his county. He has also won numerous project medals and is working toward many more. He currently serves as the vice president of his 4-H club, the Barn Buddies, participates in Jr. Leaders, and has attended the Teen Leadership Conference held at the SDSU campus in Brookings, S.D.

In addition to numerous accomplishments, he shows pigs and goats, participates in public presentations and static projects during achievement days, and is active in shooting sports, including archery and trapshooting. He is enthusiastic about 4-H and willing to lend a hand when asked. Effling is also a mentor to the younger members of his club.

Through 4-H, he has learned to be a leader every day, and he will use the skills he has gained from 4-H in the future. Carter is a great example of a 4-Her who works hard and helps others so that they too can grow and learn.
