Travel, Overnights, and Sponsored Trips
The following guidance and best management practices govern travel and transport of minors, sponsored trips, and overnight events for the South Dakota 4-H program. Collectively, these practices enhance youth safety, program integrity, and fund stewardship.
Protest and Grievance Policy
A Grievance is defined as an alleged misinterpretation, misapplication or violation of a specific term or provision of 4-H policies affecting the rights or privileges of an individual provided by law.
Guardians, Visitors, or Adult Participants Code of Conduct
In most 4-H settings, non-participants are welcome to serve as respectful audience members to cheer on and encourage 4-H youth.
Accommodation of Participants with Disabilities
South Dakota 4-H will consider the needs of participants with special needs and/or disabilities in its program. All 4-H programs will comply with current standards under the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990) and subsequent provisions.
Organizing, Chartering, Reporting, and Disbanding 4-H Clubs/Affiliates
The following procedural guidance guides local 4-H clubs and affiliates as they organize, charter, report, and eventually disband. Collectively, these practices ensure that South Dakota 4-H clubs and affiliates are meeting appropriate federal or state guidelines and program best practices.

4-H Trip Deviation Form
Before making alternative travel arrangements, parents/guardians must complete and submit this required form at least 10 calendar days prior to the start of a South Dakota (SD) 4-H sponsored event/trip when a youth wishes/needs to deviate from the posted schedule.
South Dakota 4-H Livestock Integrity Pledge
This pledge is a required annual component of South Dakota 4-H’s livestock education program.
