BROOKINGS, S.D. – Save the date for this year’s Rosebud Range Workshop, which is July 15, 2026, at the Rosebud Sioux Tribal Ranch by Rosebud.
Hosted by South Dakota State University Extension, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, South Central Resource Conservation & Development and Rosebud Sioux Tribal Ranch, this event has sessions for adults and children on rangeland education and management.
From 9 a.m. to noon CDT, adult participants will learn about calculating proper stocking rates, plant identification and uses and view a rainfall simulator demonstration. Each adult will receive a range kit with educational materials from the South Dakota Grassland Coalition and the South Dakota Soil Health Coalition, a grazing stick and supplies to calculate forage production.
The afternoon session from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. CDT and is designed for youth to learn about the importance of rangeland ecosystems and their components. They will learn basic plant identification and uses, including the difference between the three major plant types on rangelands – grasses, forbs and shrubs – and why each type is important. Youth will also receive kits including educational materials, coloring pages and snacks.
A free lunch is provided to all attendees.
