Purpose
The Extension Advisory Council (EAC) is a representative, statewide network of engaged community members who provide strategic, high-level guidance to SDSU Extension. The Council ensures that the voices of South Dakotans inform the direction, relevance, and impact of Extension programs and policies.
SDSU Extension Mission
SDSU Extension strengthens people and places through hands-on discovery,
leading to transformative change.
Our Core Values
- Educating
- Empowering
- Engaging
Core Guiding Principles
- Commitment to the Extension Mission: EAC members affirm the value of SDSU Extension in delivering transformational, research-based education that improves lives and communities. They actively support the mission through advocacy, engagement, and ongoing learning.
- Community Connection: EAC members serve as the “eyes and ears” of their communities, listening for opportunities, concerns, and emerging needs. They help build grassroots support and increase public understanding of Extension’s value through local advocacy.
- Strategic-Level Advisory Role: The EAC focuses on big-picture issues rather than day-to-day operations. Members offer insight into statewide strategies, public policy and marketing approaches with a long-term, systems-level perspective.
- Representative Participation: Members bring unique perspectives from their community of place or interest to help shape inclusive, statewide Extension strategies.
Council Membership
- Members serve a two-year term, renewable at the discretion of the Director.
- The EAC meets twice yearly, with one meeting via Zoom and one meeting in person at a location to be determined each year.
Support for Members
SDSU Extension supports EAC members through:
- Regular communication and updates
- Reimbursement of travel and meeting-related expenses per university policy
- Optional invitations to special events
