SDSU Extension Wisdom Writing workshop returns online in 2026

BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State University Extension is pleased to announce the next online offering of the Heirlooms: Wisdom Writing Workshop on March 31, 2026.

This writing workshop has been successfully offered online twice, with the virtual format bringing the transformative experience of wisdom writing directly to participants across South Dakota and beyond, expanding access to lifelong learning opportunities.

The next session is from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. MT / 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. CDT on March 31. It is free to attend. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link. To register or learn more, visit the SDSU Extension Events page and search for “wisdom”.

“By continuing to offer the workshop online, we’re ensuring broader access for people who may not be able to attend in person,” said Leacey Brown, SDSU Extension Gerontology Field Specialist. “It’s inspiring to see how this program continues to grow.”

The Heirlooms: Wisdom Writing Workshop invites participants to explore the rich perspectives they’ve gained with age and express those insights through personal storytelling and reflective writing. Guided by Brown and South Dakota Humanities Scholar Molly Barari, the workshop blends engaging education with creative practice in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Attendees will explore meaningful questions about aging, identity and personal growth, discovering how writing can serve as a powerful tool for coping with life’s challenges and celebrating its triumphs. Each session is designed to spark creativity, connection and confidence as participants honor their lived experiences.

For more information or to bring these workshops to your town in 2026, contact Leacey Brown, SDSU Extension Gerontology Field Specialist, at 605-394-1722.
