SDSU Extension welcomes new Better Choices, Better Health SD Engagement and Enrollment Coordinator

BROOKINGS, S.D. – SDSU Extension is pleased to announce Sandi Traupel as the new Engagement and Enrollment Coordinator for the Better Choices, Better Health SD program. 

SDSU Extension, the South Dakota Department of Health and South Dakota Department of Human Services partner to provide Better Choices, Better Health SD in an effort to teach South Dakotans with chronic health conditions ways to manage the impact of their disease on their lives and their families’ lives.

As the program’s engagement and enrollment coordinator, Traupel will inform and educate South Dakotans on the opportunities offered through Better Choices, Better Health SD. 

“I’m excited to be involved with our communities and working with people in taking steps that can help them learn how to manage their health,” Traupel said. 

A Spencer, South Dakota, native, Traupel now lives in Salem, South Dakota. She will be based in the SDSU Extension Mitchell Regional Center. 

After graduating from SDSU with a degree in animal science, Traupel spent more than 16 years with the South Dakota Animal Industry Board. As one of the state’s meat inspectors, she scheduled and managed inspections of grocery stores and meat lockers to make sure they meet federal and state regulations. She also has nearly 18 years of experience as a 4-H leader in McCook County, including as a State Fair volunteer. 

“We are thrilled to have Sandi Traupel join the Better Choices, Better Health SD Team,” said Lori Oster, SDSU Extension Better Choices, Better Health SD Program Director. “Sandi brings a positive attitude, great customer service experience and her passion for giving back to others.”
