A part of SDSU Extension, the Better Choices, Better Health-South Dakota program is celebrating its 10th year of workshops to help South Dakotans manage a range of health issues and conditions.
The diabetes workshops are designed for people with prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, caregivers and those with a family history of diabetes. Participants will make weekly action plans, share experiences and help each other solve problems during the interactive group discussions.
“Today, people with diabetes live longer and more healthy lives. Although having diabetes can put you at risk for serious health problems, like heart disease, chronic kidney disease and nerve damage, there is a lot you can do to delay or prevent complications,” said Megan Jacobson, SDSU Extension Chronic Disease Management Field Specialist. “This workshop provides information that people living with type 2 diabetes and their caregivers can use to start making small changes in behavior that can lead to big results.”
Studies have shown that participants who complete the program have experienced better overall health, have more energy and less fatigue, make fewer doctor visits and have less stress about their health.
