BROOKINGS, S.D. – Families seeking educational resources on aging can now benefit from viewing the popular Aging Well series online.
This program, led by South Dakota State University Extension and North Dakota State University Extension, is known for its engaging and informative content. It recently concluded its three-part journey, and recordings are available on the SDSU Extension Older Adults information page.
Leacey Brown, SDSU Extension Gerontology Field Specialist, said the recordings will only be available for a short period to maintain the Aging Well series’ commitment to delivering timely and relevant information. While they are available, she is pleased to provide access to those who couldn’t attend the live sessions.
“These workshops were very popular, and participants were eager to get the recording to watch again,” Brown said.
Workshop topics include:
- Family relationships and estrangement: This workshop explains how common estrangement is and why it can matter more as we get older. Older adults often rely on family for help, care and connection. When those relationships are strained or broken, it can affect daily life and support. Viewers will learn about the impact and discover strategies to build a support system and manage family relationships.
- Medications and safe use (polypharmacy): Polypharmacy means taking several medications at the same time. This video helps participants understand how this can affect health as we age, including possible side effects, drug interactions and increased risk of falls or confusion. Viewers will learn simple ways to manage their medications safely and introduces “deprescribing” to safely reduce or stop medications that may no longer be needed.
- Planning for the future (estate and legal planning): Presenters explain how documents like wills, trusts and powers of attorney work, and why they are important at different stages of life. Viewers will learn how to choose trusted people to make decisions if they are unable, and how to ensure their wishes are clear. The session also covers ways to organize important information and encourages planning ahead to reduce stress and help loved ones make decisions when it matters most.
The Aging Well series is an annual program dedicated to empowering individuals and families with valuable, up-to-date educational resources. To view the recordings, visit the SDSU Extension Older Adults information page.
