BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State University Extension is pleased to announce the seven recipients of 4-H shooting sports state-level scholarships.
These scholarships are awarded to outstanding youth in the shooting sports program and are funded through entrance fees paid at the shooting sports state match. The volunteer committee reviews applicants and selects their top candidates.
The 2025 4-H scholarship recipients are:
Mya Heinje, Roberts County ($1,000) – Heinje graduated from Wilmot High School and is attending SDSU to major in agricultural business. Heinje participated in various shooting sports disciplines, including muzzleloader, small bore rifle and hunting skills. She qualified for the national championships several times and is a National 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassador.
Jaxen Dockter, Roberts County ($750) – Dockter graduated from Wilmot High School and is attending Lake Area Technical College to study energy technology. Dockter participated in several disciplines, including archery, shotgun and .22 rifle. He qualified for the national championships in 2024 and helped the archery team place third overall.
Lydia Main, Butte County ($750) – Main graduated from Belle Fourche High School and is attending Bethel University to major in nursing. Main participated in several shooting sports disciplines and has placed in the top 10 at the state shoot in .22 rifle and 3-Position every year in the junior and senior age division. She participated on the Hunting Skills team at nationals in 2023, placing seventh as an individual and helping the team earn third place overall.
Josie Nold, Brookings County ($500) – Nold graduated from Brookings High School and is attending SDSU to major in animal science. Nold participated in many disciplines, including BB gun, archery, .22 rifle and muzzleloader. She qualified for nationals her second year shooting muzzleloader.
Eva Jensen, Meade County ($500) – Jensen graduated from Sturgis Brown High School and is attending SDSU to major in architecture. Jensen has enjoyed competing at nationals on the teams for air pistol, .22 small bore pistol and muzzleloader. She has also participated in Western Heritage and has attended the National 4-H Western Heritage Conference
and Invitational Shoot in Utah.
Logan Brakke, Minnehaha County ($500) – Brakke graduated from Brandon Valley High School and is attending South Dakota Mines to major in mechanical engineering. Brakke enjoyed participating in archery and created many different projects including a quiver, arrow stand and target bale stand.
Shay Solinsky, Custer County ($500) – Solinsky graduated from Central High School and is attending Southeast Technical College to become a veterinary technician. Solinsky qualified for nationals in 2022 and was a part of the air pistol team. In 2023, she was selected to serve as a National Shooting Sports Ambassador.
