SDSU Extension will host a Home Harvest Workshop on July 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Meat Lab and room 129 of the SDSU Animal Science Complex (1097 N Campus Dr, Brookings, SD 57007).
The Home Harvest Workshop is intended to provide individuals who harvest their own animals either through harvesting livestock or hunting with the knowledge to do so safely while preserving meat quality. This workshop is open to youth and adults. Youth MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of the program. Material will be presented with a minimum of middle school level of understanding.
The program will cover humane harvest practices, sanitary carcass and meat handling, a beef fabrication demonstration, recommendation of tools and equipment to have on hand, and other topics. This program is not intended to be an in depth instruction for how to harvest.
Registration
