SDSU Extension and the SDSU Cottonwood Field Station will host Coffee at Cottonwood on January 22 at 9:00 a.m. at the SDSU Cottonwood Field Station (23738 Fairview Road, Philip, SD 57567). This educational series is designed to bring livestock producers, land managers, industry professionals, and researchers together for practical conversations about livestock and rangeland management in an informal setting. As the name suggests, coffee and Wall donuts will be provided!

Offered every two months, Coffee and Cottonwood will provide an informal opportunity to learn about current research, emerging technologies, and management strategies relevant to livestock production in western South Dakota and the Great Plains. Each program will run 2-3 hours long and will feature a combination of presentations, discussion, and hands-on demonstrations at the Cottonwood Field Station.

This month, attendees will explore how digital record-keeping systems and RFID electronic identification (eID) tags can simplify livestock records and improve animal-level data collection. Participants will get hands-on experience with RFID technology and discuss practical ways to incorporate digital records into livestock operations.
