Last week we received reports of snail populations causing issues in South Dakota sunflower fields. Snails are normally not an issue in South Dakota crops but like their slug relatives, they can pose a threat to crops when field conditions are just right.

False Chinch Bugs in the Garden

Swarms of false chinch bugs have started appearing in South Dakota this month. Although they are typically only a nuisance pest, their populations can become magnified during cool, wet springs (like this year). In high abundances, false chinch bugs can pose a threat to garden plants, especially Brassica plants such as broccoli, cauliflower, turnips, and cabbage.

Six lamb pelts will be auctioned during the Lamb Bonanza, which is Jan. 13, 2024, at the SDSU Frost Arena in Brookings. The game starts at 2 p.m. and features SDSU versus University of Denver.
