BROOKINGS, S.D. - The South Dakota State University (SDSU) Department of Animal Science, alongside the South Dakota Sheep Growers Association and the SDSU Athletics Department, hosted the 30th Annual Lamb Bonanza on January 15, 2022 in conjunction with the SDSU men’s basketball game against the University of Denver at Frost Arena on the SDSU campus in Brookings.
“Lamb Bonanza showcases the integral role of the lamb and wool industry in South Dakota,” said Kelly Froehlich, Assistant Professor and SDSU Extension Small Ruminant Production Specialist.
Six SDSU lamb pelts were auctioned at halftime; four featured the SDSU letters and two featured the SDSU Jackrabbit. The auction generated more than $9,000 to support undergraduate scholarships for animal science students and student athletes.
“Lamb Bonanza is a celebration of the lamb and wool industry in South Dakota,” said Joseph Cassady, Head of the Department of Animal Science. “We greatly appreciate the support from those who purchased pelts to provide scholarships to students in the department.”
