BROOKINGS, S.D. – Jackrabbit fans who attend the Jan. 7 South Dakota State University women’s basketball game can also sample lamb and wool products as part of the 31st Annual Lamb Bonanza.
The Lamb Bonanza showcases the integral role of the lamb and wool industry in South Dakota while supporting the Jackrabbits during an afternoon of basketball. This year’s event is prior to the SDSU basketball game against the North Dakota Fighting Hawks at SDSU Frost Arena in Brookings.
From 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., members of the South Dakota Sheep Growers Association will serve lamb sliders and lamb spread crackers. The game starts at 2 p.m.
During half time, six lamb pelts will be auctioned – four “SDSU”-lettered pelts and two “Jackrabbit” pelts. Proceeds from the auction help support undergraduate scholarships at SDSU in the animal science and athletic departments.
Additionally, SDSU Signature Wool products will be on display with information on where to order them. The scarves, stadium throws, and queen-sized trapper blankets are all made of 100 percent South Dakota-grown wool and have been processed to be cold water machine washable. Proceeds provide scholarship support to students in animal science and apparel merchandising.
The promotional activities are sponsored by the South Dakota Sheep Growers Association, the SDSU Animal Science Department and the SDSU Athletic Department.
