South Dakota 4-H Capitol Day

4-H Capitol Day, held during the South Dakota legislative session, will take place on February 20.

Utilizing the South Dakota 4-H Civocacy guide resource, which includes legislative terms, calendar dates, and question prompts, youth have the opportunity to engage with legislators through an interactive scavenger hunt, attending committee meetings and caucus, and an ice cream social in the rotunda. Most importantly, participants of the event get to tell their 4-H story by highlighting the impact of the program on their life and community.

Schedule

  • 7:30 - 10:00 a.m. - Check-in (Rotunda - Second Floor)
  • 7:45 a.m. - Committee Viewing
  • 8:00 a.m. - Joint Appropriations Committee Viewing (Room 362)
  • 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. - Capitol Building Tour Option 1
  • 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. - Capitol building Tour Option 2
  • 10:00 a.m. - Committee Viewing
  • 11:00 – 12:00 p.m. - 4-H Ice Cream Social (Rotunda - Second Floor)
  • 11:45 a.m. -  Gather for large group photo (Capitol Rotunda Stairs)
  • 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. - Lunch on your own
  • 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. - Caucus Viewing (OPTIONAL) - Meet in Rotunda (Second floor)
  • 1:00 p.m. - House and Senate Session Viewing & Recognition of 4-H
  • 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. - Capitol building Tour Option 3
  • 3:30 p.m. - Departure 

The day will be filled with state legislative learning experiences, along with an opportunity to mingle with fellow 4-H supporters from across the state.

This event is free and open to any 4-H supporter. Preregistration is required by February 15 using the form below.
