The SDSU Native Plant Initiative and Beautify Spearfish will be at The Snapper’s Club (300-540 S Canyon St, Spearfish, SD 57783) on June 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for a Native Plant Expo featuring native plants, practical information, and opportunities to ask questions.
Native plants grown by SDSU students using local seed will be available for sale, including themed plant packs and individual species. Many themed plant packs will be available. Look for the Penstemon Pack, featuring a selection of our beautiful native penstemons; the Rock Garden Pack, with plants for a dry, sunny site or rock garden; and the Butterfly Pack, with plants that butterflies especially enjoy. The event will include presentations on seed storage, seed sources and how they perform in South Dakota, the cost-benefit of plugs versus seeds, native plants for birds, and why dark skies matter to you. This event also serves as part of the requirements for Bee City USA Certification through the Xerces Society. Beautify Spearfish will have vouchers for native plants.
