The Aging Mastery program is your roadmap to a healthier, happier, and more connected future. You’ll learn strategies for better health, financial well-being, and community engagement.
Today, a remarkable shift is underway in the later stages of life. Compared to previous generations, we are living longer and enjoying better health during our retirement years. In 1950, the average 65-year-old could anticipate an additional 14 years of life, with roughly 50% of that time spent in good health. Fast forward to today, and that expectancy has risen to 19 years with roughly 66% of that time spent in good health. This unprecedented longevity presents a unique opportunity for our generation-more free time than ever before to pursue our passions and live fulfilling lives.
Societal expectations about aging and our retirement years have changed, little, though. For instance, individuals aged 65-74 typically dedicate the majority of their day to sleep (around 9 hours) and passive leisure activities such as watching television (approximately 4.5 hours daily). Time spent on activities that proactively enhance their well-being and contribute to their communities is often limited.
This calls for a paradigm shift. We need to create new pathways that encourage ongoing and positive engagement in life during these extended years.
The Aging Mastery program is designed to challenge traditional views of aging and empower individuals to make the most of their later years. Aging Mastery offers a framework of creating and fulfilling purposeful retirement by guiding participants toward a healthier lifestyle, stronger social connections and increased civic engagement. We believe that by dedicating a small portion each day to self-care, community involvement, and meaningful pursuits, older adults can not only enhance their own well-being but also enrich the lives of others and strengthen their communities.
