Bacterial Blight Developing In Some Soybean Fields
Bacterial blight was found developing in a few soybean fields scouted the week of July 19. Leaf tattering is a common symptom of bacterial blight and happens when expanding bacterial blight lesions coalesce and form large brown patches.
Bacterial Leaf Streak Developing at Low Level in Winter Wheat
A few winter wheat fields were found with bacterial leaf streak starting to develop at low levels. Bacterial leaf streak is usually observed starting from flag leaf growth stage. It can be severe on the upper leaves when there is prolonged leaf wetness resulting from frequent rains.
Slugs Causing Issues in Some South Dakota Wheat Fields
Slug activity in wheat fields has been reported in South Dakota. Although slugs are not normally an issue in South Dakota crops, they can pose a threat when field conditions are just right.

While out scouting corn fields (the week of August 11, 2020) Goss’s bacterial wilt and blight was found starting to develop in a number of fields.

It was a strong showing for SDSU Extension 4-H members, including a grand champion finish for Delaney Zoss from Sanborn County, who won the horse division’s individual demonstration for her talk on equine color genetics.
