All Women Count! - Breast and Cervical Cancer Control: Coordinates statewide activities to promote early detection of breast and cervical cancer. Pays for screening tests for underinsured women who meet age and income guidelines.
Avoid Opioid Abuse and Misuse Program: Avoid Opioid SD is a joint effort between the South Dakota Department of Health and Department of Social Services to address opioid abuse and misuse in the state as part of the South Dakota Opioid Abuse Strategic Plan.
Diabetes Prevention and Control: Collaborates with partners to design, implement, and evaluate a broad range of public health strategies to reduce the burden of diabetes and improve the quality of life for all persons affected by diabetes in South Dakota.
Healthy South Dakota: Statewide effort to promote healthy eating and increased physical activity as a means to reduce overweight/obesity and chronic disease. Provides a single, reliable source of information on nutrition and physical activity.
Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention: Promotes healthy communities through prevention, detection, and monitoring of cardiovascular diseases within South Dakota.
Oral Health: Strives to improve the oral health of South Dakotans by collaborating with partners to assess access to care, workforce and dental health needs. Supports programs that provide education for consumers and professionals.
South Dakota Cancer Registry: Ensures the coordination of cancer reporting in the state.
SD Colorectal Cancer Control Program: Promotes screening and early detection of colorectal cancer. Coordinates efforts to increase access to colorectal screenings by combining screening with other health care activities, such as annual flu shots (FluFIT) and evaluating healthcare provider knowledge.
South Dakota Comprehensive Cancer Control Program: Dedicated to bringing together individuals, organizations, health care providers, and agencies to reduce the burden that cancer places on the people of our state.
South Dakota Violent Death Reporting System: National Violent Death Reporting System (abbreviated as NVDRS) is the only state-based anonymous surveillance system that covers all types of violent deaths. NVDRS collects information on violent deaths and provides insight into why they occurred. The South Dakota Violent Death Reporting System (abbreviated as SD-VDRS) began collecting data in 2019, focusing on Pennington and Minnehaha counties. Statewide surveillance began January 1, 2020.
Tobacco Control: Coordinates state efforts to prevent young people from starting to use tobacco products, help current tobacco users quit, and reduce nonsmokers’ exposure to second-hand smoke.
