BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State University Extension will discuss regenerative agriculture during its Crop Hour series the week of Feb. 24.
Crop Hour is a weekly webinar series hosted via Zoom from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. CST every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday through Feb. 27, 2025. It is free to attend. Registration is required for participants to receive the Zoom link. Register online at the Crop Hour page.
Presentations can be viewed online on the SDSU Extension website on the Crop Hour page.
There are three presentations for the 2025 regenerative agriculture discussion:
- Soil phosphorus and biology, by Clarence Winter, SDSU Agronomy Field Specialist.
- Composting and uses, Anthony Bly, SDSU Agronomy Field Specialist.
- Soil nitrogen cycling and effects of adding commercial fertilizers, by Vander Nunes, SDSU assistant professor of sustainable agriculture.
Regenerative agriculture is a style of farming/ranching that emphasizes restoring and enhancing soil health and ecosystem functionality while improving profitability on farms. In South Dakota, regenerative agricultural practices can include cover crops, crop rotations and integrating livestock production systems.
“The concept of regenerative agriculture takes a holistic approach to improve generational success in crop production through better resource management across the state,” said Winter. “This principle underpins my discussion on soil phosphorus and biology, focusing on managing soil phosphorous more effectively.”
