Organize This! Explore, Adapt, and Implement for Local Impact

Tuesday, September 1

  • Format: Virtual
  • Where: Zoom
  • Contact: Leacey Brown, SDSU Extension Gerontology Field Specialist

SDSU Extension will host an informational webinar on September 1 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. CDT to provide an overview of the Organize this! program, including its educational content, timeline, and lessons learned. The webinar will also offer updates on the 2026 Organize This! cohorts and outline facilitator training and opportunities to implement the program locally in 2027.

Organize this! Legal and Financial Must‑haves was developed by SDSU Extension with support from land‑grant universities in Nebraska and North Dakota. It was piloted virtually in 2025 with 36 participants from Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, North Dakota, Nebraska, and South Dakota. The ten-month program increases knowledge of legal concepts for caregiving and end‑of‑life decision‑making. It supports participants as they organize documents and information for fiduciaries (e.g., financial attorney-in-fact or health care proxy) and helps prepare for the realities of declining health and end-of-life. Sixteen participants from the 2025 cohort agreed to complete post-program interviews, enabling the project team to refine the model to improve participant learning and organizational readiness.

Workshop Objective

  • Describe the purpose, structure, and key components of the Organize this! Legal and Financial Must‑Haves program.
  • Explain how the program supports preparation for declining health and end‑of‑life, including organizing information for fiduciaries.
  • Summarize key lessons learned from the 2025 pilot and how they informed program improvements in 2026.
  • Describe available facilitator training and resources for implementing the program in local communities.
