SDSU Extension will offer two opportunities for Organize This! facilitator training. Participants have the option to attend the training on October 26 and 27 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. CDT or October 28 and 29 from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. CDT.
Organize This! Legal and Financial Must-Haves is a ten-month program that increases knowledge of foundational legal concepts around caregiving and end-of-life decision-making. Developed by SDSU Extension with support from land-grant universities in Nebraska and North Dakota, the program provides education and supports participants as they organize documents and information for fiduciaries while preparing for the realities of declining health and end-of-life.
Difficult life events such as serious illness, caregiving, incapacity, and death often occur before families have identified who will make decisions or organized important information. Organize This! helps participants prepare for these realities before a crisis occurs.
Organize This! was piloted in 2025, with nearly two-thirds of participants remaining engaged throughout the 10-month period. The program expanded in 2026, attracting more than 50 registrants and a waiting list of 25 individuals.
Participants have reported positive experiences, with one couple describing Organize This! as "the best program of its kind." Another participant shared, “There were things on there I never would have thought of—like how to access your email.” Participants have reported that the program provides time to reflect, set goals, and make meaningful progress toward organizing important documents and information.
Building on the success of the pilot program, SDSU Extension is seeking to train others to facilitate this program in their community. Ideal facilitators work for organizations that serve caregivers, older adults, adults with children, or adults with dependents who can incorporate Organize This! in their existing activities.
Registration
The facilitator training costs $200 and requires a modest time commitment of 6 hours of virtual instruction, along with time to prepare program materials and facilitate four educational sessions over a six to ten month period in 2027. Registration can be completed using the blue register button above.
Each facilitator will receive Organize This! Participant Binder, the facilitator’s guide, and other materials to help support their efforts to bring Organize This! to their community. SDSU Extension staff will provide training and support throughout 2027, as well as guidance on assembling program materials.
