Applications of organic and synthetic fertilizers are commonly applied to agricultural crop fields to help provide enough nutrients to optimize crop yield potential. For potassium (K), fertilizer applications are widely accepted as beneficial to improve corn yields when soil test K levels are below a critical soil test value. Clay minerals in the soil are known to influence both soil K fixation and subsequent K release.
