2021 Fall and Early Winter Climate Outlook

The latest monthly and seasonal climate outlooks were released Sept. 16, 2021 by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center. Forecasters are pointing towards a warmer than average October, with odds leaning towards drier conditions for the last few months of the year.

SDSU Extension to Host Women on the Range Mini Winter Workshop

Women in agriculture across South Dakota are invited to attend a Women on the Range Mini Winter Workshop in Fort Pierre and Pierre, South Dakota, on Jan. 14, 2022. Participants will learn about the importance of soil health and how to integrate it into their grazing management systems, as well as available winter feeding methods that also create ecosystem benefits.

Corn Hybrid Trial Results

In 2024, corn hybrid, conventional corn hybrid and corn silage trials were conducted at different locations throughout South Dakota.

Red Sunflower Seed Weevils Are Active

Red sunflower seed weevils are active in South Dakota sunflowers. We noticed that many fields at R5 stages are already being sprayed, but scouting should still continue in those fields after application, and it should begin for fields that will reach the R5 stage within the next week.
