BROOKINGS, S.D. – SDSU Extension is pleased to welcome Jimmy Doyle as a new Diversified Agriculture Field Specialist.
Based out of the SDSU Extension Winner Regional Center, Doyle will focus on helping South Dakota farms and ranches enhance their resilience and sustainability through diversification.
“I look forward to working with producers to help identify and tap into underutilized opportunities in their operations,” Doyle said.
Originally from New Mexico, Doyle has a bachelor’s degree in wildlife science from New Mexico State University and a master’s in wildlife ecology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Doyle previously worked for SDSU Extension as a Natural Resource Field Specialist from 2016 to 2020. He has held various natural resource management positions, and managed a 28,000-acre bison ranch/2,500-acre organic farm on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in south-central South Dakota. Doyle also farms and ranches with his family near Mission, South Dakota.
“Jimmy’s previous SDSU Extension experience combined with his practical knowledge will be tremendous assets to help SDSU Extension develop an interdisciplinary approach to climate resiliency programming on our farms and ranches in South Dakota,” said Sandy Smart, professor and SDSU Extension Agriculture and Natural Resources Senior Program Leader. “We are grateful to have Jimmy back with us and serving South Dakota in this unique position as the Diversified Agriculture Field Specialist.”
