SDSU Extension to Host a Sheep Integration Workshop on January, 15

BROOKINGS, S.D. - SDSU Extension will be hosting “Adding a Sheep Enterprise to your Ranch” workshop on Wednesday, Jan 15, 2020 at the SDSU Cottonwood Field Station (23720 Fairview Road, Cottonwood, SD). 

This workshop will evaluate the effectiveness of integrating sheep into ranching operations. A variety of topics will be covered including comparing gross revenue and input costs of commercial sheep production, shed lambing vs. range lambing, potential for multi-species grazing, targeting grazing opportunities, infrastructure and equipment requirements and marketing opportunities.

Schedule: 

10:00 AM – 12:00 PM MST Commercial ewe/lamb production analysis 
12:00 – 1:00 PM Lunch sponsored by South Dakota Sheep Growers Association 
1:00 – 3:00 PM Practical considerations and logistics to integrating sheep into a ranching operation 

Registration is due by Monday Jan. 13. Registration is free and lunch will be provided.
