BROOKINGS, S.D. - South Dakota 4-H welcomes Laura Beall as the new SDSU Extension 4-H youth program advisor for Bon Homme & Douglas Counties.
"Laura brings extensive, professional experience serving youth and volunteers through her previous employment with Girl Scouts. She is also a 4-H alumni and understands the value this program delivers to youth and families," said Amber Erickson, SDSU Extension 4-H youth development field operations coordinator.
In her role as SDSU Extension 4-H youth program advisor for Bon Homme & Douglas Counties, Beall will provide timely 4-H youth development, research-based information, resources, education, leadership and support to meet the needs of youth, while building relationships to enhance and carry out the mission of SDSU Extension throughout Bon Homme & Douglas Counties.
"I appreciate the opportunity this role gives me to support youth and volunteers. It's also rewarding to watch youth grow, learn and gain confidence through the experiences 4-H provides them," Beall said.
More about Laura Beall
Growing up in rural Nebraska, attending a small country school, Laura Beall attributes 4-H with connecting her to opportunities to travel and meet people outside her community.
"4-H gave me the opportunity to travel and influenced my ability to talk to people I didn't know. The organization provides new experiences and opportunities many rural youth would not otherwise have," Beall said.
Prior to joining SDSU Extension, Beall worked as a volunteer specialist and membership specialist for Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons. "I learned a lot about how to support volunteers and collaborate with communities to enhance opportunities for youth," she said. "Organizations, like 4-H don't exist without volunteers. I am eager to provide them support and work with youth to expand the opportunities and programming available."
