December 18, 2018

BROOKINGS, S.D. - South Dakota 4-H welcomes Katie Hansen as the new SDSU Extension 4-H youth program advisor for Faulk County.

"As a 4-H alumni and previous teacher, Katie brings a lot of experience and enthusiasm to Faulk County youth and families," said Amber Erickson, SDSU Extension 4-H youth development field operations coordinator.

In her role as SDSU Extension 4-H youth program advisor for Faulk County, Hansen will provide timely 4-H youth development research-based information, resources, education, leadership and support to meet the needs of youth, while building relationships to enhance and carry out the mission of SDSU Extension throughout Faulk County.

"I grew up here, so I understand the long-standing tradition 4-H has in this county. I'm excited to continue the positive tradition of 4-H and provide support and guidance for the many new opportunities 4-H offers youth and families," Hansen said.

More about Katie Hansen

As a family & consumer sciences education graduate of South Dakota State University, Hansen's career focus has always been working with youth.

"I'm really passionate about helping youth figure out who they are and be the best person they can be," explained Hansen, who taught family and consumer sciences in the Miller School District prior to joining the SDSU Extension team.

Because she was actively involved in 4-H as a youth, Hansen said this new role is a good fit.

"It feels like my career has come full circle. Some of the 4-H leaders who helped me when I was growing up are still involved and now I get to support them today," Hansen explained.
