South Dakota Remote Works - November

Monday, November 7 - Friday, December 9

Remote work describes a professional environment in which employees can work from home or another location outside their company’s physical office, such as a shared workspace. The South Dakota Remote Works program is a partnership between SDSU Extension and Utah State University Extension to offer the Certified Remote Work Professional online certificate course. This one-month blended course combines online work with interactive workshops. The program is designed to equip participants with the skills and tools necessary to transition from on-site work to a virtual remote work career. The course is offered four times a year, but this specific course will be running from November 7 - December 9.

Course Information

Required Workshops

Participants should plan to invest at least 6-8 hours per week to earn this professional certificate. Participation in all four workshops is mandatory for this course. If you are not able to participate in any of the workshops, please enroll in a different month that is compatible with your schedule.

Workshops will be offered at 2:00-3:00 p.m. CDT or 7:00-6:00 p.m. CDT on:

  • November 10
  • November 17
  • December 1
  • December 8

Program Fees

The registration fee for the course is $250. Scholarships of $125 are currently available for South Dakota residents, thanks to the generous support of the Bush Foundation through the Ecosystem Grant. For more information about scholarships, contact  Peggy Schlechter, SDSU Extension Community Vitality Specialist, or Joshua Hofer, SDSU Extension Community Vitality Field Specialist.

Registration

A remote worker should possess technical skills to access digital tools with little to no assistance and feel confident in trying out new remote work tools. A remote worker should be a self-starter who is accountable, disciplined, and an organized problem-solver.

Please fill out the form below. If you possess the necessary skill and resources to participate, you will receive access to register for the course. The deadline to register for the November course is October 25.

Certification Requirements

Although the Certified Remote Work Professional online certification program is a non-credit course, online assessments are used to confirm and measure learning. The online assessments can be repeated if you need to improve a score on a particular element. To successfully complete the course and earn the certificate, you will need to do the following:

  1. Complete all nine core modules, including assignments contained within each module.
  2. Pass each assessment with a minimum score of 80 percent.
  3. Attend all four interactive workshops.

Refund Policy

Refunds will not be issued once the drop/refund deadline has passed, which is the Friday after the first workshop. Participants may transfer their enrollment to the next course on a one-time basis if they wish to drop after the deadline.

"This course was a comprehensive introduction to a remote career. I appreciated the variety of ways we learned, through new platforms, written and video meetings. If you want to prepare yourself for a remote work career, I highly suggest this course."
