Minnehaha Master Gardeners Annual Spring Event

The Minnehaha Master Gardeners will be hosting their Annual Spring Event on April 13 at 8:30 AM CDT at the Schroeder Auditorium at the Sanford USD Medical Center (1305 W. 18th St., Sioux Falls, SD 57117).


8:30 Registration

9:00 Morning Special Session: Planting for Year-Round Color - presented by guest speaker Eric Bergeson.

10:15 Vegetable Gardening Beyond the Ordinary - Enhance your gardening experience by growing a vegetable or two you have never tried before. Master Gardener Mary Lerssen will introduce you to some not-so-common vegetables such as leeks, celery, kohlrabi, etc.

11:15    Success With Old Fashioned Flowers - Hear from Master Gardeners Dorothy VerHey and Roine Klassen about how to use old fashioned flowers in the landscape. Focus will be on irises and peonies with discussion on other old fashioned flowers as time permits.

12:00    Lunch

12:30    Afternoon Special Session: Diseases and Insects – Prevention is Key - guest speaker Eric Bergeson. 

1:45     Welcome to the Garden – Master Gardeners Cami Jacobsen, Cathy Frederickson, and Nancy Thompson will provide tips on how to make your yard a beautiful and welcoming space for guests that include people and pets, birds and butterflies. In addition, you will hear practical ideas on how to make your garden kid-friendly by incorporating plants that they can grow, pick and eat - inspiring the next generation of gardeners.

2:45     Fabulous Succulents – See how beauty in the garden does not have to involve flowers.  Master Gardeners Cindy Jungman and Rhonda Jensen will talk about the awesome colors, shapes, and textures available in easy-to-grow succulent plants, and how you can propagate these awesome plants to expand your collection.

Online Registration

All registrations must be done online. The deadline for registration is Friday, April 12. Register early – last year’s event sold out a week prior to the event.
Registrations made after April 5 may not include lunch since commitments with the caterer will be made at that time. If lunch is not available, the registrant will be notified by email, however there will be no price adjustment in the registration fee.
